Microsoft family prevent download of free apps 2017
I seem to find a solution to this problem, came here to share it. Downloading MS store games is just a breeze for them. So, I was fixated on how to firewall from installing ANY exe. The solution is simple - go with Chrome OS, which by design doesn't allow any external exe. I borrowed two chromebooks from school and those seem to do their job, except being tiny 11 inch screen and quite laggy due to oldish hardware. Will be on a lookout to buy 2 new Chromebooks with larger screens inch , good wireless network card, and CPU this coming Thanksgiving.
My older child's 1yo top-notch laptop will be transferred to my spouse, who needs a replacement. Both kids will be handed big screen fasty Chromebooks, which are more manageable for parent controls. No this doesn't work. It blocks the 'Windows Store' app but does not stop direct downloads from the website. It does give you the option to block the URL "microsoft. Example is Minecraft below:. Also, there seems to be something which prevents you from blocking any URL beginning with "microsoft.
If you try and block the URL above, it just doesn't work. Well, that's a bit of a different issue - but he has worked out that if he launches Minecraft by searching for it in Cortana Search bar, it again just completely bypasses any App limits set. Finding the parental controls very poor - Screentime works but the App Limits don't. The photo below explains it all - 2 hour limits set but then I find he's been on Minecraft for nearly 5 hours!! Wish Microsoft would properly fix this.
If someone points me to the support page which just suggests I remove and re-add his account to the PC I'll go crazy!!! I fully relate as my kids have the same obsession with Roblox and managed to circumvent everything I did! Our preference for Chrome is because the kids' personal use as well as homeschooling is all Google i. It sounds like you might need a third party application to block URLs since it seems Microsoft will not block it's own URL I assume that would prevent ability to access all Microsoft pages including the Family page where you set limits and block apps.
The kids figured out they could just browse as "guest" and what a treasure, as there's no browser history in this mode! Next stop was trials with various antivirus products. McAfee Safe Family slowed the heck out of the systems, literally grinding to a halt. Norton Family just didn't do it for me works for a friend though , e.
Kaspersky Safe Kids works for me and the phone app is convenient for responding to kids' URL access requests. I love that I can set computer access limits e. Yes, it came to a full internet lockdown with gradual reopening pardon the pun! But I have better peace of mind until I think my boys are ready to try again for self-regulation and then I'll grant wider access. Not sure if you guys already found the solution, but if you haven't then it's quite easy to prevent the "Child" account in the Microsoft Family feature from installing any apps without your permission..
Log into your main administrtor account that manages the child account, the select the child account in question Simply disable this "App" and it will prevent the child from installing another app. Though I found this this "App" wasn't there in the begining so have a feeling it only appears when you install a few other apps first.
Then it does appear. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit. Thank you for your suggestion, but I couldn't find which Left Panel and the subsequent "Devices" and "Apps and Games" you were referring to. Would you please attach the screenshot?
